Who We Are

The Break Free Foundation is a project of Freedom To Change Community Interest Company (Number: 7791225) that has been set up to provide young people aged between 14-25 who are disabled, disengaged or deprived the opportunity to have experiences they might otherwise not have.

Using the Marine medium we will be taking Young People from all walks of life and inatilay giving them transferable life skills this is achieved through a range of water based activities, education, and training programmes. Initially the Foundation will be providing access to equipment, premises and trained qualified staff in Bristol.
The Break Free Foundation aims to provide these facilities ultimately to the whole of Bristol Channel area. Working in partnership with existing organisations, we aim to deliver marine-based education, training and activity programs to disadvantaged and disabled young people, as well as other youth groups and socially excluded young people who are not in education, training or employment. This will include but not be limited to young people in care homes and those on the brink of being placed into care, as well as young carers in need of a break and young people in need of respite. A Busary will be made available, taking some of the young people to a commercial level of training enabling them to go in to work.

We aim to operate a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA) training center. These opportunities for the young people will run as 'taster days' to County Councils and other youth groups /organisations and can be up to a week, but most often they are 1-2 days.

We operate a 40' yacht capable of taking 4-6 young people, skipper and a volunteer, who could be a part of our organisation, or a qualified youth worker. We also have access to a RIB (Ridged Inflatable Boat) and canoes and kayaks some of which are adapted for people with physical disabilities.
