As each year gos by and individuals show aptitude and willingness they will be invited to apply for the bursary scheme offered by Break Free Foundation.

Break Free Foundation's Bursary will be known as the ‘Karen Passmore Fund’ and will be open to any young person who has completed training to Competent Crew with the Break Free Foundation. In addition to this there will be criteria that they must fulfill to prove their commitment.

The young person must;

• Have Completed Competent Crew.
• Raise £500 by their own methods (this will pay for their own wet weather gear so when they qualify they can go straight into work).
• Have a letter of support detailing why they should be given the place.
• Show aptitude and motivation when on the boat towards all aspects of the running of a yacht.
• Be literate.
• Be willing to be away from home for extended periods.
• Agree and sign a contract that details conduct and organisations SOP. (Any Breach of the organisations SOP will result in dismissal from the course).
•  Have a passport and EHIC card.

It is the intention to start the bursary training in September 2013 though to September 2014 (there after an annual event) where the final mark to the end of the training will be entering the Small Ships Race in Cowes, Isle of Wight.
